Challenge

GE Vernova sought to modernize its training ecosystem by transitioning from traditional classroom delivery methods to self-paced, web-based training (WBT). The existing approach relied heavily on PowerPoint-based sessions, which lacked interactivity and engagement. Moreover, there was a pressing need to ensure the scalability of training across internal and external audiences and to establish a prerequisite foundation for instructor-led sessions.

Key objectives for the WBT initiative included:

  • Modernization: Standardize and modernize training content and delivery using current tools and technologies.
  • Scalability and Accessibility: Ensure self-paced training materials are accessible via an LMS to both internal personnel and external stakeholders.
  • Engagement: Create dynamic, interactive modules to foster better learner engagement.

Strategy & Solution

GE Vernova partnered with ELB Learning to develop a web-based training module titled “Optima XE Steam Cleaning Operation and Process Training.” ELB Learning’s expertise, honed with over a decade of collaboration with GE Vernova, ensured that the solution was tailored to meet both organizational needs and learner expectations.

The WBT solution from ELB Learning was designed to address specific requirements:

Content Transformation

  • Converted static PowerPoint presentations into a modern, interactive, 20-25-minute WBT module.
  • Ensured compliance with GE Vernova branding standards while keeping visuals simple and intuitive.

Interactive Features

  • Integrated quizzes and assessments to reinforce knowledge retention, with an 80% passing score requirement.
  • Focused on creating "dynamic content" that simplifies technical concepts for learners, addressing initial feedback such as the “swozzle” example provided by instructors.

AI-Generated Voiceovers

  • Enhanced professionalism with AI voiceovers, ensuring consistent audio quality.

SCORM Compliance and LMS Integration

  • Delivered the final product as a SCORM 1.2 package, enabling tracking and assessment through GE Vernova’s learning management system.

Results

The WBT initiative marked a significant "step change" in GE Vernova’s training framework. Feedback from management, instructors, and learners highlighted several positive outcomes:

  • Engagement and Accessibility: Dynamic, self-paced modules reduced reliance on in-person sessions, streamlining training delivery across global teams.
  • Positive Learner Feedback: Learners appreciated visual enhancements, such as the animated “mixture of air and fuel,” which improved comprehension.
  • Scalable Model: The WBT format established a replicable framework for future training programs, ensuring scalability across internal and external audiences.
  • Organizational Alignment: Early feedback confirmed alignment with GE Vernova’s mission to modernize its learning ecosystem and increase engagement through technology-driven solutions.

The success of this project has set the stage for exploring advanced options like AR, VR, and 3D technologies in future training modules. As GE Vernova continues to implement the WBT across its workforce, it remains committed to leveraging modern tools for a cutting-edge learning experience.
